Banff–Tuesday

We’re sitting in our hotel room looking out at misty mountains. Still light at 8 pm. Having eaten well on the Rocky Mountaineer, we have bought biscuits, cheese and wine for tonight. feeling pretty weary after the 2 early mornings. There is a spa bath in the bathroom, so we might even try that before bed.

Again today we had spectacular scenery. We didn’t realise that we only got into the Rockies around lunchtime today. Train climbed from about 1200 feet this morning to about 5400 feet at the highest point. According to the train guide, snow on the mountain tops is unusual at this time of year, (it is midsummer next week!) but there was some for us. We saw a number of elk and a marmut during the day.

Coffee wasn’t offered for morning or afternoon tea (that doesn’t make sense), so we had to settle for wine and nibbles instead. Lunch included wine also, so we were well looked after.

The forecast for tomorrow is good – hope so, as we have a gondola ride and a helicopter flight.
